Cliff grew up on a dairy farm in rural New Jersey. Drawn to the mountains for hiking, climbing, and backcountry skiing opportunities, Cliff moved to the Methow Valley in 1992.
Many of the barns on the dairy farm where Cliff grew up were constructed in 1859. Cliff was inspired at a young age by the quality and longevity of the hand-hewn pegged timber frame structures. Cliff strives to build furniture with the same integrity as those barns, pieces that his clients will cherish and will hand down through many generations; Cliff’s furniture becomes his clients’ practical art.
Cliff made his first piece of furniture in 1973 and his training includes apprenticeships with cabinetmakers in New Jersey and Chelan, Washington. Current work includes furniture, cabinetry, and doors custom built to client needs. His favorite materials include Northwest hardwoods and local recycled pine and fir. His work can be seen at the Winthrop Gallery, the Confluence Gallery, Sun Mountain Lodge (rooms and cabins), and in many quality local homes. If you are interested in purchasing or commissioning custom designed woodwork or cabinetry, please call Cliff at Winthrop Wood Works.
