The Derby Hat

Turned and carved platter/bowl in cherry. The black republican cherry tree from which this piece was crafted came from a property just south of Winthrop, WA. Turned while the wood was still green, the form distorted as it dried, creating organic lines and a bit of a "flop" to the wide rim. The rim is carved, and a natural crack in the rim is stabilized using traditional bowtie (also called Dutchmen or pewa) inlays. 15-1/2" x 3-1/8".
